I think my 11 year old son is wearing off on me. My latest 8x8's have this science fiction theme and feel to them. It might also be an episode of Fringe I watched that was about an alternate universe. Whereever this is coming from, wouldn't it be great to live in the other universe for a while? This is painting is where I would like to be. Somewhere peaceful, calm and beautiful. Maybe even stress free! There I go with crazy thoughts again....

This painting is one in an evolution of abstracted tree paintings that I make. Trees are metaphors for people to me and I love the way they can communicate so much about human nature. Cerebral Tree is about how the intricacies of our brains make us who we are and give us the personalities we have.

This particular tree of mine has evolved from a sketch book drawing to one that I drew on a few cards for good friends, to a small art piece, and finally it needed to be expressed in texture. I am thinking I may make a stamp of one of these trees some day. I love to draw them because they are like little meditations for me.

This is Meandering Through. If you'll notice there is a very faint, little curvy line meandering through the painting carved into the texture. This painting represents the path in life that we are all taking. It is unpredictable and winding all around. Who knows where it will take us, but I imagine it is definitely worth the ride.

This painting is named Taming the Beast because it felt like I was never going to make this into something that could go out in public! I painted, I sanded, I tried again, I waited and repeat. But now I am very happy with the end result. It seems ironic to me that the lines in the painting look almost cage-like.
