Distant Connections

Today my friend and fellow artist Dawson Morgan posted my painting Distant Connections and wrote such thoughtful things about my art on her facebook page. I am just so complemented by what she wrote and how she took the time out of her busy schedule to say something nice about me for all to read. If you would like to see her uniquely beautiful ceramic art, visit her web site here. You can also see her work in person at Wood Icing at the Chesterfield Mall.

Distant Connections is was another painting that came together so easily that I felt guilty when I was finished. Isn't it crazy that some of us artists feel we need to suffer in order for the work we did to count? My friend Kristen Powers woke me up from that stupid thought I was having. She called me on it and told me to stop painting right now! So I listened, and I am so glad I did.

This painting is about how we can maintain important connections with people in our lives even when there is physical distance between us. In the same way that perspective creates the illusion of things being further away, geography can be an illusion too. Through one conversation, the gap is closed. I love that, I need that, and I am so grateful for it.
