Artists Helping Artists Radio Show

This is an internet based Blog Talk Radio show that I listen to while I am in the studio sometimes. My friend and fellow artist at Wood Icing Gallery; Susie Tenzer introduced me to it and I will be forever grateful. This show keeps me company while I am painting and is full of really great marketing ideas. Leslie Saeta is a former marketing pro turned artist; great combo for sure. She does interviews with various artists and also offers many tips of her own to the mix. She touches on Web Sites, social media marketing, painting, exhibiting, galleries, selling online and much more.

This is a great resource for artists because she has made the shows free and you can listen to them any time. You can pause it to take some notes and you can come back to a show at another time. Sometimes I feel like I am hearing things I already know, but more often than not I am learning lots of new ideas. Even if I have heard it before it is nice to know other people are going through these same thoughts and issues. The best part is getting to hear how other artists are dealing with this life of trying to make a living creating and selling art.

My three favorite shows lately have been; Christmas in July, Let's Turn Pro, and 15 Ways to Get Back on Track for your Best Year Ever. In these podcasts, I was reminded to think ahead to the Christmas season when I wasn't thinking about that at all. I learned about a way to work around the Facebook Fan Page issues that I have tons of questions about, and I was reminded how important it is to schedule paint time. Yes, I said SCHEDULE paint time. Since it is what I love the most, I have often been stupidly depriving myself of it in order to finish the more "important" business like things.

Lucky Art Party at Wood Icing

I wear many hats in this artistic life. It keeps me very busy and sometimes I feel frustrated about that fact and then I give myself a good smack and remind myself that everything I am doing is related to what I love. Art. This is a dream I get to live and my "busy" is self imposed by my passion.

The latest thing that kept me busy was our art reception at Wood Icing. I manage the gallery and the artists, so this was my baby. My mom (my partner) did a lot, even though she would be silly and say she didn't do anything, but I spearheaded it. We have been working hard to create a place that is different than other studio/galleries. We like that our studio is visible, mess and all, we want to bring decorative and fine arts together, and we try really hard to make our place feel beautiful and inviting.

The best part of our little shop is that we have the help of really amazing artists. They help us cover the hours, use the time to work on their art and in turn we give them lots of exhibit space. Having these talented and creative people in our space all of the time makes Wood Icing a fun place to visit because you never know what you will get to see them creating.

The Lucky Art Party was a great success. We used two Crayon boxes to match the arty gift with the lucky winner. We went through all 64 crayons and then some so I know at least 70 people came not including artists. We also had free art demos from seven of the artists who exhibit their work in our gallery. This was a really fun night for everyone involved. I wish I could have been a guest instead of a host!

Inspiration Springs Up at Wood Icing Studio/Gallery

We are all itching for spring and we decided what better way to spur it along, than to have an art exhibit! You can come meet the artists on Saturday, April 9th from 6-9pm at the Wood Icing Studio and Gallery on the upper level next to Sears and Houlihan's of the Chesterfield Mall in Chesterfield, MO. As always, we will have our favorite Schlafly beer, wine, water and light appetizers. I am expecially excited to get to show off some of my new work!

We are proud to announce that Nettie White of Nettie White Interiors will be transforming our special exhibition space into a feast for the eyes. She is turning an old entertainment center into a luxurious centerpiece for the dining room. This kitchen themed vignette will be accented wth original art by Wood Icing Artists; Greg Barth, Margaret von Kaenel, and Susie Tenzer. We dare... you to leave uninspired!
