The Year of the Journal - 2012

Happy New Year! This year, I plan explore the art of art journaling. I am not sure how this differs from the sketchbook I keep, but I am certainly willing to give it a try. My friend Kristen introduced me to journal making in November of 2011 and we gave each other assignments. The first prompt was to create something inspired by the colors of the rainbow. Start with yellow and end with violet. This is something I am doing for fun, without pressure. So far I have only made time for it during holidays when I allow myself some self indulgence. I am hoping to change that in 2012. That, in fact, is my New Year's resolution. To s l o w  d o w n the year. I do not want to get to the end of 2012 and be asking where the year went again. Hopefully "playing" in my journal will help me feel that I took time to smell the roses, so to speak.
Here is the cover from an old book that Kristen gave me.
I love the title Magnificent Obsession; seems like the perfect title for my art journal.

Okay, now don't laugh. These are my first attempts.
My pictures aren't so great, but hey, I'm not taking this too seriously, right?
I love red barns. I used Derwent Inktense colored pencils for this one.
More Derwent Inktenses for my orange. Did this in the car on the way to Ben's mom's house for Thanksgiving.
I screwed this cutesy one up, but it was fun using my new Golden Fluid Acrylics that I bought myself for Christmas.
Green playtime with fluid acrylics again.

Blue pretties. I couldn't resist.
We hope to be offering art journaling classes at Wood Icing starting in February and we will be selling Golden Fluid Acrylics too. Can't wait!!! Thank you Kristen for helping me stretch my creative muscles!
