My Last Painting of 2011
I feel lucky to have ended 2011 with a bang, by being hired to make a wedding gift for someone to give to her best friend. A woman named Kelli came into Wood Icing with a very unique request. She wanted me to create a tree painting like what I already do, but with one special detail...marshmallows! Yep, you read right, she wanted marshmallows stuck to the end of the branches. She had a dream where her friend was proposed to under a tree with marshmallows stuck to the branches, long before the groom to be ever proposed to her friend. When the impending wedding became a reality, she thought it would make for a wonderful gift. Kelli and her husband wrote some lovely sentiments and I adhered that paper to the back of the painting.
I feel so fortunate to get to be a part of such a thoughtful gift. I hope the happy couple appreciates Kelli's thoughtfulness for dreaming up such a uniquely personal gift. I am sure she is so excited for them to get it on their wedding day!

ReplyDeleteI have a question for you Heather...I was wondering if you could spill some secrets or share some secret-keeping tips to how you "draw" into wood icing. I have trouble with it sort of cracking up...do you use a special tool or prepare it in a certain way? Just wanted to know how to work with the wood icing I won from your blog awhile ago! Thanks!

ReplyDeleteMelissa, maybe try to work with the wood icing in a ittle thinner layer and you can also spritz it with a little water if is seems to dry to draw through. I draw through it with literally everything; toothpicks, ceramic tools, pencils almost anything works. Good luck and keep trying because it so fun!
I love this! I have always had very vivid dreams, and many very meaningful ones! What a wonderful idea to share this dream in a painting! That is a very unique gift!

Lovely. I am always so enthralled with your paintings. I love to go over to Etsy and browse through your work.......those colors are just wonderful and challenge me to live a little outside my typical palette.
