Funny Fourth Graders

I have been spending an hour of my last 10 Tuesday evenings with these two fourth grade girls. They are creative, talented and hilarious. One of them asks me last night, " are tomatoes a fruit or a vegetable?" I say, "I've always heard they are a fruit." she says, "Then woudn't that make ketchup a smoothie?" I love it. I don't know if she thought of that herself or what, but I laughed out loud. I could go on and on with the funny stories, like the day they came in with blue wigs like Thing 1 and Thing 2 from The Cat in the Hat or when one of them brought a wad of cooked rice wrapped in a napkin in her shoe! No joke. They definitely brightened my day each time they came for their lessons.

I am sad to say they are finished with their still lifes they have been working on because that means we will breaking for the summer. I bought some fake fruit and a bowl from Walmart so they could learn to draw something they were looking at realistically with colored pencils. They did such a good job. It is amazing that they stuck with it for so long. They were definitely ready to be done, but they were so pround of themselves when they finshed.

Check 'em out.

That's the kinda thing that's keeping me from painting....and that's alright.

  1. nothing like a kids perspective on life to give you a lift! The girls did an excellent job with their still life's hope they continue to grow their creative selves!

  2. Children and art brighten my day, too, though I've never had a young artist suggest a ketchup smoothie or bring rice in her shoe! Now, that's creative!

    Their still-life drawing looks wonderful!
It is apparent that you did an excellent job teaching them!
    See you soon!

  4. Thanks Bren, Mary and Colin. The good news is that they decided to keep going with lessons through the summer, so I get to have a few more laughs!
